The Weaving Shed bar and bistro, located in the Victoria Mills residential development in Shipley, has undergone a major refurbishment following extensive flood damage. TheVictoria Mills development on the site of a 19th century mill, is situated within the buffer zone of the World Heritage Site in Shipley.

Following days of heavy rain, the nearby River Aire flooded its banks on Boxing Day 2015, causing extensive damage to the bar, apartments, gymnasium and beauty salon on the development.

Solution:Positive was appointed under Performance Duties by the bar operator, on behalf of the insurers, to develop proposals for the refurbishment of the bar, with a monitoring and quality performance role.

Key challenge: The bar and bistro is a popular venue, focal point and much used facility by the residents of the 400 apartments on the development and speed was of the essence in its restoration.

Solution:Positive worked closely with the operator and Main Contractor, to complete there furbishment on a “fast-track” programme, creating a relaxing environment with an industrial backdrop which is now again being enjoyed by the residents. The original clock, which stopped at 4:32pm – the time the bar was flooded – was salvaged and takes pride-of-place in the refurbished bar.
